FUTURE GENERATION WINS APPROVAL FOR £25M  CAMBRIDGE STUDENT ACCOMMODATION SCHEME 

 

  • The £25million development named ‘Barnwell Gate’ will help satisfy strong local demand for purpose built student accommodation
  • Planning success follows an 18-month consultation which resulted in design changes and the majority of consultation respondents backing the scheme
  • Contractor yet to be appointed but construction expected to begin on the 154-bedroom scheme in December

London, October 3 2019 – Developer Future Generation yesterday (Wed) secured planning permission for a £25million student scheme in Cambridge.

Approval for the 154-bed project — named ‘Barnwell Gate’ — came after significant consultation with officers, local councillors and residents over the past 18 months.

This resulted in the vast majority of respondents to the consultation supporting the scheme.

Most of the accommodation will consist of clusters of rooms with shared living and kitchen facilities though 20 self-contained studio apartments will also be provided.

The university is just a 10-minute cycle ride away. The current occupants of the site at 444 Newmarket Road, a car dealership, will be relocating to other premises.

Future Generation is the Purpose Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) arm of developer Southern Grove.
