Intel Announces the NUC’s End-of-Life – Impulse Embedded can provide business continuity

Intel have recently announced that they will be exiting the business of complete PC systems, including NUC mini-PCs and kits. This follows the announcement from earlier in the year that Intel would be exiting its pre-built server business as part of the company’s ongoing loss-cutting strategy.

Impulse Embedded, the Staffordshire based supplier of Industrial Computing, Embedded and IIoT solutions, is assuring its customers that this is not necessarily a cause for concern. While Intel will be ending their “direct investment” in NUC equipment, these powerful yet compact devices will still be available from Impulse, maintaining the uncompromised quality and longevity customers have come to expect.

What Is The NUC?

Well-known for their space-saving qualities, Next Unit of Computing (NUC) devices feature high-performance Intel® Core™ processors, capable of the same (if not even more powerful) capabilities as a PC tower but in a small form factor. Despite their small size, they can be used for any conceivable computing function, from gaming to business and edge computing, without taking up unnecessary space.

The NUC was launched in early 2013 when Intel engineers were challenged to create the smallest possible motherboard using standard components. It stands as a pivotal step for innovation in the industrial computing industry as it advances in the market of increasingly powerful, efficient machines.

Intel’s official statement on the NUC states: “We have decided to stop direct investment in the Next Unit of Compute (NUC) Business and pivot our strategy to enable our ecosystem partners to continue NUC innovation and growth. This decision will not impact the remainder of Intel’s Client Computing Group (CCG) or Network and Edge Computing (NEX) businesses. Furthermore, we are working with our partners and customers to ensure a smooth transition and fulfillment of all our current commitments – including ongoing support for NUC products currently in market.”

As a distributor and integration partner of ASRock Industrial, the team at Impulse Embedded will continue to stock both NUC boxes and motherboards as before. ASRock Industrial are the third-largest motherboard manufacturer in the world, and their innovative industrial NUC products provide long lifecycle solutions with high-quality graphics, Ethernet connection and incredible Intel processing power for a state-of-the-art computing experience.

Intel’s announcement is far from the end of the NUC and Impulse Embedded are committed to providing cutting-edge industrial computing components and embedded systems, manufactured by their dedicated partners. Additionally, they will continue to provide ongoing product lifetime support as standard for their entire NUC product range.
