ADVANTECH JOINS OTHER ELITE UK COMPANIES AS PART OF SPECIAL COMMEMORATIVE PUBLICATION

Paris and London, 22nd September 2021 – Leading global industrial computing platform provider Advantech has been chosen as one of an elite group of companies to take part in a limited edition publication highlighting 300 years of British leadership.

Coinciding with the 300th anniversary of the appointment of Robert Walpole as the first Prime Minister of Great Britain, the book, entitled 300 Years of Leadership and Innovation will be launched at Westminster Abbey on Wednesday 22nd September. Produced by the History of Parliament, 300 Years of Leadership and Innovation features expertly written articles on those who have shaped British society, past and present; from Walpole to Cromwell, Churchill to Blair, HM the Queen and Prince Charles to captains of industry.

The book will be distributed to a select list of senior decision-makers and influencers including Members of the House of Commons and House of Lords; special advisors, researchers and staff across Westminster and Whitehall; Members of the European and Commonwealth Parliaments; government agencies; and universities, colleges and schools.

Advantech UK demonstrates the company’s versatility and innovative approach. Collaborating closely with network and technology partners, Advantech is leveraging its extensive knowledge and expertise to harness the power of 5G in the development and trialling of autonomous vehicles and autonomous vehicle corridors on the UK motorway network. These applications employ a broad spectrum of Advantech technology from industrial grade 5G router gateways to high performance industrial computer platforms for early-stage vision- based AI systems being tested in on-vehicle applications.

In the field of smart grid and sub-station automation, Advantech is partnering with companies such as Siemens, Hitachi-ABB, GE Grid and GE Renewables to drive forward certified computer and server platforms which will ensure the optimal performance, security and efficiency of the UK grid. The renewables element of this (especially offshore wind generation) is growing at a significant rate, and Advantech is a key partner in the Dogger Bank windfarm which when completed will be the largest in the world with a capacity of 3.6 Giga Watts, supplying more than six million homes.

Most recently, the company has been playing a key role in the UK’s healthcare sector. Advantech and its partners worked closely with Visbion & Adey Electronics to deliver mobile image scanning systems for CT, X-Ray and MRI, with Advantech providing routers to ensure connectivity from the mobile scanning units to the hospitals for consultant access to the images. This solution became even more critical with the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic and was central to delivering critical services to the Nightingale Hospitals established nationwide to counter the pandemic.

Advantech’s European managing director, Jash Bansidhar, explained: “The invitation to be part of this project is a major compliment to us as a business. It represents recognition of our strong UK focus and leadership in the sectors we serve. Our investment in future growth and expansion continues apace at our two facilities at Prince Albert Dock in London and Wallsend in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, where we employ specialists in highly skilled engineering and technical sales roles. More than half of our UJ business is conducted via partners, contributing significantly to additional indirect employment in the region.”
