New online tool helps users customise the best maintenance-free linear drive system
Spindle, rack and pinion, or belt drive? Light or heavy load? Motor or handwheel? The search for the right linear moduleis time-consuming, which is exactly why igus has introduced the drive technology configurator.
After entering all the parameters for the application, this clever configuration tool shows the customer all suitable drylindrive technology solutions including their service life. Depending on the selected filter settings, the user can choose the optimal linear module system for the application, configure it further and order it with compatible accessories such as the correct motor and control system.
The online drive technology configurator makes the best drive product suggestions based on the data for the application, based on criteria like the installation position, load, stroke length, speed, and self-locking settings, which meet all thecustomer’s technical requirements. “What is special is that with the help of the test data from our in-house laboratory, wecan make a lifetime statement about each linear module as well as the motor load in the individual application and display it online,” says Adam Sanjurgo, Product Manager of drylin drive technology at igus UK. “So, the customer can be sure that the module works reliably and maintenance-free in their machine and system.”
With more filter options, such as setting special operating conditions like high temperatures, or use in the food sector, the selection can be further customised. Then the user can equip the module with appropriate accessories as required, meaning every option is possible from simple manual operation with a handwheel to the appropriate model of motor to control the drive.
“By displaying and selecting only the most compatible products, the user has the security of receiving a ready-to-connect linear module,” says Sanjurgo. The price is automatically calculated and displayed, so the effect on cost of the selected options can be assessed and the system reduces the time spent enquiring. In the final step, the configuration can be saved and/or forwarded, the parts list and technical information can be downloaded and the linear module can be ordered with one click.
drylin SLN: Small linear module for large tasks
With its drylin drive technology, igus offers linear modules for a wide range of applications, from making format adjustments in the packaging industry, for measuring, inspecting and testing automation, to setting up laser marking systems. At the heart of all these drive systems are self-lubricating plain bearings made from igus high-performance polymers, characterised by having long, predictable service life, being maintenance-free, having corrosion resistance, precision and high reliability.
The portfolio of linear modules also includes drylin SLN. This miniature linear module is designed for the smallest installation spaces and operates on the drylin N low profile linear guide from igus. With the compact series, the user can choose between three slide versions as well as the sliding or ball-bearing spindle. The drylin SLN module is used in, among other things, laboratory analysis systems, pipetting and sensor technology, and wherever handling in the smallest installation space is required.
