Precision Acoustics Collaborative Project Shortlisted for Two Prestigious British Awards

Precision Acoustics Limited, market-leading manufacturer of ultrasound measurement products for the medical and non-destructive testing (NDT) industries and supplier of MHz ultrasound equipment, has been shortlisted for two major industry awards in three separate categories.

They recently completed a project, the Development of Radiation Resilient Ultrasonic Sensors project (ReDRESS project), with a consortium of industry and academic partners to develop a suite of ultrasonic measuring devices for high radiation environments. Working in close collaboration with Ionix Advanced Technologies, TWI Ltd and the University of Sheffield, the project spanned 21 months.

Each partner brought their own areas of expertise, and Precision Acoustics’ focus was on the design and manufacture of piezopolymer transducers which needed to be easy to assemble, have a long useful life, be robust enough to withstand harsh radiation environments and be sufficiently flexible in their design for uses in many different scenarios.

The Awards

The Engineer’s Collaborate to Innovate (C2I) Award: established five years ago to discover and celebrate great examples of technology-led engineering collaboration across a range of different disciplines and sectors.

Precision Acoustics and the ReDRESS project have been shortlisted for the Wild Card category, that which celebrates achievements that don’t naturally fit in to a traditional sector category. Winners will be announced on The Engineer’s website in the week of 1st – 5th February. Find out more at https://awards.theengineer.co.uk/

British Engineering Excellence Awards 2020 (BEEAs): more than ten years of recognising and celebrating innovative British engineering design.

Precision Acoustics and the ReDRESS project have been shortlisted for two awards;

  • Design Team of the Year, which looks for the successful use of teamwork in creating an engineering or electronic product or system, including the team’s composition, how the members interacted, how design decisions enabled the team to work within a target budget and how well the team met project milestones, with emphasis on problem solving.
  • Materials Applications of the Year, which is focused on looking for evidence of how the properties of a particular material (or material combination) have been exploited in order to solve a design challenge, including performance issues that needed to be solved, how the material was selected and how that material enabled or improved the performance of a product or system.

The BEEAs winners will be announced online during the week of 22nd-26th March at https://www.beeas.co.uk/
