The PowerStop industrial shock absorber range from Zimmer Group has already established an enviable reputation in the field, thanks to its high energy absorption characteristics even in compact installation environments. Zimmer Group has now taken this proven and reliable technology to the next level by adding an extensive range of products and variants known as “PowerStop 2.0.” This new series is now available in four variants: Mini Series, Standard Energy, High Energy and Adjustable Energy, providing a wider choice of configurable options for multiple applications. This new and comprehensive range starts with the “Mini Energy” series, featuring M4 to M6 installation sizes, followed by the “Standard Energy” model. The third part of the series is “High Energy”, which currently represents the gold standard, featuring the highest level of energy absorption on the market, in terms of installation space required.
Completing the range is the entirely new “Adjustable Energy” series offering a High Energy adjustable damper, which covers the full velocity range from 0.1 – 5 m/s. These units can be easily configured to accommodate a wide range of impact velocities to ensure efficient damping for different amounts of mass or energy.
In addition, the Standard and High Energy series, already seen by many as an industry standard, have been further enhanced, with the range of thread sizes being expanded considerably. This part of the range also offers the options of either long stroke or standard stroke versions, to provide either powerful and short braking or a smoother damping process with slightly less lag.
The Adjustable Energy series also gives users the option of adjusting the shock absorber so that the entire stroke can be utilised to maximize the smoothness of the damping process. Compared to the existing series, the impact velocity has been increased from the original specification of 1.8 to 4 m/s, to an impact velocity of 3 to 5 m/s.
Protection For Harsh Environment Applications
This enhanced range of dampers now come as standard with various classes of protection, previously only available upon request, and making them suitable for use within a variety of harsh environments. In addition to the standard variants, suitable for use within clean assembly environments, the customer is able to select, a damper with a felt ring that is resistant to dust and chips and can be used in applications such as wood processing. Alternatively, a unit with a wiper is available, which is ideally suited for use in environments where liquids or hydraulic fluids may be present. Other versions, which incorporates bellows, offer the highest levels of protection against ingress into the damper.
These new levels of protection make the PowerStop 2.0 series suitable for use within a wide range of application areas including: operation in particularly dirty environments such as in grinding machines, where abrasive media is present, or applications exposed to cooling lubricants under pressure. The range, which uses an innovative biologically-based H1 certified oil in all dampers, is especially suited to applications where cleanliness is essential, such as those found within the food sector. The entire PowerStop family feature a housing and a piston rod made of high-grade stainless steel. This ensures extremely high corrosion protection and foreign particles are unable to adhere to the housing making cleaning very easy. A comprehensive range of accessories is also available to enhance the installation and operation of the units in service.
