Trio of prestigious accolades for NSK

NSK, a world leader in bearings and linear motion solutions, ended 2023 by celebrating a trio of notable awards and accolades that reflect its progressive efforts in a number of key business areas, including technical achievement, ESG (environmental, social and governance) and staff diversity and inclusion.

For instance, the company is very proud to reveal that Dr Satoru Arai, Executive Chief Engineer at NSK’s Industrial Machinery Technology Development Centre received the 2023 Manufacturing & Machine Tool Award for Technical Achievement from the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers (JSME). The JSME grants this prestigious award to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to manufacturing and machine tools through the development of new technologies, products and manufacturing methods.

Specifically, the award recognises Dr Arai’s achievements in establishing a unique machine design framework and developing machine tool state stabilisation technology. The NSK Feed Drive Adjuster is the embodiment of state stabilisation technology that enables advanced automation of machine tools and delivers environmental benefits which open up new possibilities in manufacturing applications. Although the NSK Feed Drive Adjuster is not yet available, it is already making significant waves in industry circles.

“I am honoured to receive the award for efforts to create new value by integrating the design of machines and components,” says Dr Arai. “NSK will continue its efforts towards further value creation and real-world implementation.”

NSK is also celebrating its repeat selection for the Dow Jones Sustainability Asia Pacific Index (DJSI Asia Pacific Index), a leading ESG investment index comprising of companies in the Asia-Pacific region that demonstrate outstanding sustainability performance.

The company has enjoyed selected for inclusion in the DJSI Asia Pacific Index for 22 consecutive years since 2002. Moving forward, NSK will continue promoting ESG management as one of its most important management issues and strive to solve social issues through the company’s business activities.

Last but far from least is an accolade that relates to NSK’s ongoing efforts in staff diversity and inclusion. Based on the Pride Index 2023, an evaluation of initiatives for LGBTQ defined by Japan-based organisation ‘work with Pride’, NSK has received another Gold Award. It marks the third consecutive year of receiving this prestigious title, reflecting the company’s desire to create a workplace environment that maximises the abilities and attributes of each employee. To help enhance understanding and empathy towards less visible forms of diversity, the company undertakes regular initiatives relating to LGBTQ.

“Diversity is a source of competitiveness,” states Akitoshi Ichii, President and CEO of NSK. “An organisational culture that recognises and respects each other’s individuality is essential for innovation. To ensure we are a company that customers continue to need, trust and chose even 100 or 1,000 years from now, we will respect the diverse values and personalities of all stakeholders, contribute to the development of society and aim for the sustainable growth of the NSK Group.”
