Advantech Commits to Green Power Usage Targets and Establishes Solar SPV Project with RFD Micro Electricity

Taipei, 26th August 2021 Advantech Co., Ltd. (TWSE: 2395), a global leader in industrial IoT, is pleased to announce that Advantech Taiwan has committed to sourcing at least 50% of energy consumed from green power by 2026, with the aim of achieving 100% green power consumption by 2032. To achieve the company’s Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG) targets in regards to green power usage, Advantech plans to collaborate with RFD Micro Electricity Co. Ltd. (hereafter RFD Micro Electricity) on the development of a special purpose vehicle (SPV) for operating a solar power plant with an output of approximately 10 MW.

With “enabling an intelligent and sustainable planet” as our ESG mission, Advantech has focused on developing smart solutions that benefit the environment, such as green energy storage and wind energy equipment maintenance solutions. Moreover, the company has adopted building energy management, energy conservation, and carbon reduction mechanisms/strategies internally to optimize operations. Furthermore, Advantech voluntarily participated in the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to implement responsible production and formulate effective emissions reduction targets for 2030, obtaining international certification in June 2021.

To achieve our green power goals, Advantech will partner with RFD Micro Electricity to jointly develop an SPV for operating a solar power plant. The Madou District and Xuejia District of Tainan City have been selected as potential sites for constructing a 10 MW solar power plant, at an estimated initial investment cost of NT$530 million. The green power output from this plant will enable Advantech to achieve its 50% green power consumption target by 2026.

According to Advantech, this power plant will be equipped with Advantech’s WISE-PaaS industrial IoT cloud platform and a solar energy management solution-ready package (SRP) in an effort to optimize operations, improve maintenance management, and enhance power generation efficiency. Thus, the solar energy SRP will provide an advanced cloud management platform and solution for the solar energy generation industry.

Advantech’s cooperation with RFD Micro Electricity represents a small step toward realizing green energy consumption and carbon emissions reduction. In the future, Advantech plans to establish a Building Energy Management System (BEMS) business unit as well as a New Energy Solutions business unit for the energy conservation, power generation, and environmental protection sectors. Through long-term investment in these markets, Advantech hopes to make a significant contribution to green energy consumption and achieve its ESG targets.
