Automation supplier hires new Sales Manager: COPA-DATA appoints life sciences expert

Automation software supplier COPA-DATA has appointed Alexandra Hughes as Pharmaceutical Sales Manager. With a focus on the life sciences sector, Hughes will continue the expanding use of COPA-DATA’s zenon industrial automation software platform in the pharmaceutical sector. This provides pharma users with a go-to expert at COPA-DATA, guiding those in the industry through the common challenges of digitalisation, data management and regulatory compliance.

Hughes has a wealth of expertise and experience in the pharmaceutical industry, ensuring users have a point of contact who is a specialist in the sector. Prior to this appointment, Hughes attained a degree in BSc Biomedical Science, before spending the last six years working in industrial automation.

In her previous position, Hughes undertook the role as a Senior Sales Engineer for factory automation equipment, which included work on instrumentation, industrial sensing equipment, machine vision and traceability methods. Hughes also managed a territory and generated sales in a variety of industries, such as medical, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, packaging and automotive.

From her combination of experience in life sciences and providing automation solutions, Hughes has an extensive background in helping users achieve digital and automation strategies. Now, she specialises in COPA-DATA’s zenon software platform, which is designed to help pharmaceutical manufacturers automate their industrial facilities and manage data more effectively.

The zenon Software Platform allows for efficient processes in pharmaceutical production, providing transparency in the validated environment. Capable of acquiring, processing, storing and sharing data, zenon can communicate across existing equipment and other IT systems, making it suitable for plants of all age, manufacturers and communication protocols.

“Being actively focused on life sciences will grow the use of zenon in a thriving UK and Irish region,” explained Hughes. “Data must be accurate regardless of the sector, but it’s even more important for pharma companies. By specialising in the life sciences industry, I can support users address pharmaceutical challenges with our industrial automation software platform, zenon, through boosting production efficiency and ensuring data can be stored safely.”

Hughes joins a vastly experienced team at COPA-DATA, which is led by Giuseppe Menin, Industry Manager for Pharmaceuticals. Menin is a valued member of the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE) and the ISPE Pharma 4.0 – Plug & Produce Working Group. The group is currently working to design new architectures for pharmaceutical manufacturing and steer the pharmaceutical sector towards more flexible, interoperable and sustainable production.
