Manus Awards deadline approaches – with UK companies encouraged to enter

January 2021: A category to reward sustainability has been added to this year’s Manus Awards – an event organised by igus to celebrate manufacturers using  engineering plastics  and bearing systems in their designs.

2021 is the tenth anniversary of its prestigious Manus Awards and to mark the occasion igus has added a Green category to its usual Gold, Silver and Bronze awards – with companies worldwide encouraged to enter (the deadline is 12th February 2021).

Matthew Aldridge, UK Managing Director of igus, the global manufacturer of energy chain systems and polymer plain bearings, which has its UK headquarters in Northampton, said: Millions of plastic machine parts are used in devices, appliances and engines across the globe and yet there are few other materials as underrated in mechanical engineering as the plastic plain bearing.

“Our Manus Awards throw the spotlight on the technical superiority of plastics to solve problems, create new possibilities and improve performance. This year we are proud to be launching a new category to honour a sustainable project.“

Manus Awards judges represent the fields of science, industry and specialist media and all winners will be announced at the prestigious 2021 Hannover Trade Show in April.

The prize fund is worth more than £8,000. Previous winners include a sports catamaran, throttle ring and a device for cleaning and testing pipes.
