WEG expands in North Africa

Global industrial equipment manufacturer, WEG is expanding its French branch with the opening of a new office in Algeria. The newly established office will help WEG France consolidate its presence in North Africa and strengthen its business relationships in the region.

As part of WEG’s internationalisation, the investment in Algeria provides an opportunity to strengthen WEG’s presence in the region — expanding on WEG France’s existing business, headquartered in Saint-Quentin-Fallavier, France.

In June this year, WEG upgraded its central French premises in Lyon to support the company’s commercial success in French-speaking regions. The new facility, which includes over 1000 metres squared of office space and 5440 metres squared of warehouse space, allows WEG to reduce lead times for customers by being able to offer more services and having a larger stock holding.

“The approach initiated in Algeria is part of the group’s internationalisation,” explained Mr. Christian Beaugrand, chairman and CEO of WEG France. “After consolidating our commercial and industrial positions in mature economic zones, WEG is now expanding in more dynamic regions, which have strong ambitions for industrial development.”

Algeria is an ever-growing country with a population of 43 million people, more than 50 per cent of whom are under 30. For WEG, an organisation renowned for its ethical approach to employment and workforce sustainability, the region provides an ideal opportunity to create jobs.

Production costs are also competitive on a global scale, with Algeria possessing quality fossil fuel resources and potential for the development of renewable energies. Plus, at the heart of the Mediterranean region, close to the Arabian Peninsula and sub-Saharan Africa, Algeria has additional export possibilities beyond its sustained domestic market.

“Our public and private customers will shape the Algeria of tomorrow, and this is why WEG has made its development in Algeria a priority to support them in this mission,” Beaugrand concluded.
