Finalists announced for first-ever virtual Malaysia Awards ceremony

Thirty-one finalist entries are in with a chance of winning a prize for excellence and innovation in chemical, biochemical and process engineering at the Institution of Chemical Engineers’ (IChemE) first-ever virtual Malaysia Awards.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, IChemE’s member volunteer judging panel and organising committee are transforming the IChemE Malaysia Awards into a virtual ceremony.

This year marks eight years of the awards, which will take place on 19 October 2020 and will see winners announced in eight categories.

The Malaysian Refining Company, PETRONAS, Sumwin Solutions Malaysia, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, and Xiamen University Malaysia are just some of the many finalists of the team and individual peer-reviewed awards.

Law Chung Lim, Chair of IChemE’s Malaysian Board, said:

“The IChemE Malaysia Awards is about recognising Malaysian chemical engineers’ specialist expertise and skills that allows them to adapt to a variety of situations and industries, as well as the projects they undertake every day to support the community and help solve societal issues.

“Despite the challenges we continue to face in this pandemic, chemical engineers across our nation have persisted, so our volunteer members felt it was especially important to bring everyone together virtually to celebrate their tremendous efforts.

“Thank you everyone who took the time to enter this year’s awards and for your continuous commitment to the profession. Thank you to the judging panel for their time and effort in evaluating the entries and thank you to the IChemE employees who have provided support to the awards. Congratulations to all the finalists and we look forward to seeing you all in our first-ever virtual IChemE Malaysia Awards.”

Finalists of the awards are being contacted directly for more details on the ceremony and how to join online.

Winners of the IChemE Malaysia Awards will automatically be entered into corresponding categories at the IChemE Global Awards, which will be delivered virtually through a series of webinars in October and November. Winners of the Global Awards are eligible for the overall award for Outstanding Achievement in Chemical and Process Engineering.

What is chemical engineering?

Chemical, biochemical and process engineering is the application of science, maths and economics in the process of turning raw materials into everyday, and more specialist, products. Professional chemical engineers design, construct and manage process operations all over the world. Oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, food and drink, synthetic fibres and clean drinking water are just some of the products where chemical engineering plays a central role.

IChemE

The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) advances chemical engineering’s contribution worldwide for the benefit of society. We support the development of chemical engineering professionals and provide connections to a powerful network of around 35,000 members in 100 countries.

We support our members in applying their expertise and experience to make an influential contribution to solving major global challenges, and are the only organisation to award Chartered Chemical Engineer status and Professional Process Safety Engineer registration.
