We have seen significant growth in demand for our COUNT® series of single photon counting modules. These extremely sensitive modules utilise LASER COMPONENTS’ own VLoK* Avalanche Photodiode (APD) design with minimal excess noise factor, which enables market leading dark count rates (<10 counts/sec), low afterpulsing probability (0.2%), and no bi-stability issues. Several variants of the COUNT® modules are offered, which are optimised for different application requirements, from NIR optimised modules typically utilised for quantum cryptography to high timing precision variants optimised for applications such as time correlated single photon counting and fluorescence lifetime imaging. The extremely high single photon detection efficiency of >70% can be offered with peak sensitivity tuned to UV, Visible or NIR wavelengths though a combination of APD design and anti-reflection coating optimisation.
Recent improvements to the drive electronics have reduced the COUNT® module dead time, which has enabled higher maximum count rate, improved linearity and dynamic range. Our COUNT® modules feature a simple robust design combining a low noise APD, two stage thermo-electric cooler and thermistor with specially developed quenching and signal processing electronics. An optional fibre connector can also be offered, providing a convenient method for sampling from a multimode optical fibre.
