Solving problems in roll unwinding

Industrial equipment supplier, CP Automation, has added the new RotoSpring ejection core chuck, developed by specialist equipment manufacturer Re, to its range of industrial products. Designed for the paper industry, the patented ejection tool promises to reduce the tons of paper waste currently caused by the incorrect ejection of reel cores.

Paper waste is often caused by poor grip of reel cores and the incomplete unwinding of paper rolls. To alleviate this problem, Re has developed the RotoSpring ejection core chuck to solve the issue of grip, reel core centring and brake torque transmission.

In addition to reducing waste, the patented technology also provides added safety for the operator. Difficult ejection of reel cores — especially if damaged — can pose a hazard to the operator when removing the reels manually. By automating the process of ejecting paper rolls, the RotoSpring reduces health and safety risks for workers.

The tool can be applied in the carton board and paper markets and boasts simple installation for the end user. As it does not require any mechanical or pneumatical intervention, RotoSpring can be installed on a new or existing roll stand in less than ten minutes, dramatically reducing the time usually associated with reel core ejection.

“Using the RotoSpring ejection core chuck removes any need for operators to manually modify the machine, and therefore provides huge advantages for the customer,” explained Tony Young, owner and director of CP Automation. “Aside from the obvious financial and time benefits of its easy and quick installation, the RotoSpring also removes any health and safety risks associated with tricky ejection of reel cores.

“As a patented Re product, customers can rest assured the RotoSpring core chuck will meet the same high quality as the existing Re range. In fact, the RotoSpring has been developed on the quality technology of the existing RotoGrip torque activated chuck, combined with a new patented system for automated ejection.”

Technical data for the RotoSpring ejection core chuck, including the maximum expansions, loads and transmissible torque,  can be found on the Re website.
