Prisms are solid optics that are ground and polished into geometrical and optically significant shapes where the angle, position, and number of surfaces help define the type and function.
Spectroscopic applications typically demand that prisms must be manufactured with very strict tolerances and accuracies. Due to the variability in shape, size and the number of surfaces, manufacturing of high-quality prisms requires considerable experience and skill.

For over 50 years – Optical Surfaces has supplied high quality uncoated and coated prisms for spectroscopic applications including image rotation, inversion, re-direction as well as to disperse light into its constituent colours.

Operating in a uniquely stable manufacturing environment – Optical Surfaces is able to produce all types and configurations of prism (amici/roof, bi-Fresnel, corner cube retroreflectors, dove, equilateral, isosceles, penta, rhomboid and wedge) with market-leading tolerances.

Manufactured from high quality optical glasses, prisms are available as single components (up to 450mm) or as cemented units. Optical Surfaces production team routinely achieves angle accuracy of better than 2 arc seconds, surface accuracy of lambda/20 p-v, 10/5 surface quality and microroughness of less than 1.2nm rms on its prisms.

Drawing upon over 50 years’ experience, Optical Surfaces ISO 9001-2015 approved manufacturing facility is able to produce high quality prisms to customer supplied specifications in quantities ranging from prototypes, through batch runs to production quantities.
