Seven iglidur plain bearing materials pass the mould endurance test

For air conditioning systems in buildings, aircraft and cars, mould is not only a great annoyance but a serious health hazard. To prevent this, mould-resistant components must be used. Therefore, igus had its materials tested for mould growth. The result: seven igus plain bearing materials are resistant to fungi and bacteria.

In a laboratory test, the iglidur materials were tested for the appearance of microorganisms using the DIN EN ISA 846 method A. Plastics can be used by microorganisms as a source of food and by the metabolic products of the bacteria. This test examined the resistance of the materials to fungi and bacteria. For the test, the plain bearings were stored in a special culture for four weeks at 29°C. The result: an alteration was not found on the tested materials (iglidur G, G1, J, H1, X, GV0 and J350), nor was there a case of mildew.

In building ventilators and air damper regulators, igus plain bearings additionally offer corrosion resistance and are insensitive to dirt. They are also easy to clean and resistant to temperature, media and chemicals. On aircraft, mould-resistant iglidur plain bearings are also used in seat and arm adjustment mechanisms, kitchen storage equipment and luggage lockers.
