Advantech Collaborates with IIJ to Launch Industrial IoT Platform Aimed at Remote Monitoring and Data Visualization

Advantech (stock code: 2395) and the Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo. President: Eijiro Katsu. Herein referred to as “IIJ”) are pleased to announce their collaboration on the promotion of Advantech’s WISE-PaaS industrial internet of things (IIoT) platform in Japan. Under the terms of this collaboration, the two companies will jointly launch the WISE-PaaS platform in Japan by developing a new service tentatively named “WISE-PaaS JP” and integrated with IIJ’s secure network and cloud services. The new service will be provided by Advantech and available from January 2020.

Advantech, a leading global provider of industrial computers, has been developing the WISE-PaaS IIoT platform since 2016. WISE-PaaS is designed to collect diverse real-time data from industrial computers and manufacturing equipment such as machining tools and production line devices. Through the visualization of equipment and production line data, this platform enables operating rate tracking, remote monitoring, and predictive maintenance. Advantech provides the necessary IoT infrastructure for improving operational efficiency across a range of industries – specifically manufacturing, as well as logistics, traffic management, transportation, and energy.

The IIJ, which has extensive application experience, leverages its unique characteristic as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) in closed mobile networks with closed connections to private cloud environments in order to provide a highly secure network and cloud services for the IoT. With the goal of expanding IIoT business in Japan, Advantech and the IIJ have combined their strengths in technology and service delivery to provide a one-stop solution of integrated applications, hardware, cloud service, network connectivity, and security – known as the WISE-PaaS JP service.

Key Features of WISE-PaaS JP

  • Full Coverage of IIoT Systems
A comprehensive range of integrated service packages is provided, including basic systems, such as devices and edge servers that collect data, network and cloud infrastructure, as well as production management, equipment monitoring, and energy management applications. This allows customers to easily install IIoT systems by simply selecting the necessary components.

Highly Secure Isolated Systems

  • Because data collection requires mobile service with a closed network connection, data transfer and remote control applications are possible in closed network environments. This enables customers to build secure systems isolated from external threats.

Advantech and the IIJ have also partnered with systems integrators in the logistics, traffic management, transportation, and energy industries to promote the development of domain-specific solutions based on WISE-PaaS JP. These partners will introduce and deploy WISE-PaaS JP in cooperation with Nippon RAD Inc., the primary WISE-PaaS solution integrator.

By leveraging their advanced technologies and abundant expertise, Advantech and the IIJ hope to develop WISE-PaaS JP and promote practical IIoT applications that transform customers’ business models in Japan.
