NSK Turkey is adding value for customers in the steel industry by hosting training days at a trio of steelmaking facilities. The three training days were completed recently in line with the corporate goal of continuously increasing customer knowledge in this important sector for Turkey’s economy.
Although training at customer premises will be rolled out to other industries, NSK Turkey commenced the programme by identifying three prominent steel mills that, like many throughout the world, leverage the benefits of NSK’s bearing technologies. The aim was to make manufacturing operations and maintenance processes more efficient and, therefore, more profitable. Across the three customer sites, a total of 60 participants from steel mill departments such as mechanical maintenance, roll shops and continuous casting benefited from the knowledge imparted.
In steelmaking, bearings are deployed in a vast range of plant and equipment serving both upstream and downstream processes, from the storage yard for raw materials to actual rolling and refining operations. The working environment for these bearings is unique to steelmaking, predominantly due to factors such as particle contamination, water and heat. In addition, the bearings will likely have to cope with heavy or shock loads, vibration, extreme operational speeds, and rapid acceleration and deceleration.
“According to our philosophy of increasing customer knowledge, our team of specialists has initiated a series of sector-based technical training programmes held at customer premises, the first of which was for the steelmaking sector,” says Emrah Çakır, Territory Manager, NSK Turkey. “The training days were conducted at three important steel mills with the input of NSK’s European Steel Sector Manager, Mihai Samoila.”
NSK can offer a wide range of bearing solutions for the steelmaking sector, extending from standard to high-capacity units. At the steel mill training days in Turkey there was focus on the latest NUB series of bearings for continuous casting, as well as the new J-Line bearing units that are manufactured to the JIS standard and come in six popular housing types. Also showcased was the NSK Added Value Programme (AIP), where support is provided to make customer operations and maintenance processes more efficient and profitable.
NSK’s comprehensive training offer helps customers expand on their day-to-day knowledge and utilise bearings to maximise the working life of machines and equipment. The latest training programme includes a wide variety of established courses that focus on the major learning needs of those involved in specifying, using and maintaining bearings, with specialist instructors on hand to help.
