Our new state-of-the-art MuROOM® installation at the University of Illinois (UOI) Champaign-Urbana USA, Electron Microscopy (EM) facility within the notably renown Materials Research Lab (MRL) was completed this last year. The UOI’s progressive research environment is considered to be at the forefront of industry in materials science, condensed matter physics, and materials chemistry. One of the top global materials research centers mentoring the next generation of scientific researchers.
The MuROOM project by Magnetic Shield Corporation USA, was constructed in segments during 2017-2018 successfully, using our high permeability MuMETAL® for advanced low-field testing applications. A large scale custom modular MuROOM was built to their design specifications with perfection annealed sheet that is ready for design installations. Our high nickel-iron composition sheet material is processed through our specialized heat treatment which produces the optimum shielding necessary to conduct high technology experimentation. Our MuROOM team builds the modular room on location at your designated area or facility.
There are over 140 plus instruments in operation that are managed by the MRL. Electron microscopy instruments are located at the MRL where research groups perform tests within the new muroom environment which reduces the earth’s magnetic field up to 125 times. Our MuROOM enables the research teams to reliably and accurately conduct ultra-sensitive scientific, and research and development applications that require reduced electromagnetic interference. High resolution and atomic resolution imaging are achieved using precision applications such as Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission, and Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM/STEM) respectively. These are types of applications that researchers are collaborating on to solve great challenges.
Another recent successful large scope project at Virginia Polytechnic Institute in its Carilion School of Medicine and Research (VTCRI), located in Roanoke, VA, was completed the summer of 2018. VTI designed and built a MuROOM® in partnership with Magnetic Shield Ltd. UK, and in cooperation with Magnetic Shield Corp. USA. Our MuROOM team from Magnetic Shield constructed the modular room on-site to their exacting specifications.
