Innovation in Plastics Design & Manufacturing at PDM 2018

PDM 2018 returns to the Telford International Centre on 19th and 20th June this year. The free-to-attend event offers an all-encompassing exhibition and conference for plastics design, moulding, packaging and recycling.

Sumitomo (SHI) Demag will run a series of live four half-hour injection moulding workshops for process technicians and engineers. Four half-hour courses running on both days offer a combination of practical and theory-based learning to enhance understanding.

STV Machinery will be exhibiting a Yizumi A5 series 260 tonne machine for two component moulding and an FE series 60 tonne all electric machine, their first UK exhibition, while Borche Machinery UK will bring its latest BS150 machine. Negri Bossi is to launch its NOVA eT all-electric machine range to the UK market, running demonstrations on its stand. Other injection moulding machinery exhibiting include BMB Machinery, and Barcelona-based Itoplas Engineering.

Key ancillary machinery providers with a presence include TH Plastics, Labotek, Piovan, Kongskilde, UPM Conveying and AB Systems. Automation specialists include Hanley Robotics and Star Automation.

For the latest 3D printing technology head for the stands of CDG and Matsuura LUMEX. Plastic-IT offers visitors expertise in all aspects of plastic injection moulding including materials, product design, tooling and processing.

Leading suppliers of material, masterbatch and compounds such as Distrupol, Biesterfield, Colour Tone Masterbatch, Burgess Colours and Ampacet will be showcasing their latest product ranges. Finnish bioplastics pioneer Aqvacomp makes its first appearance at PDM promoting its biocomposite with pulp fibre reinforcement.

Sustainable and reliable product design that is resource-efficient and prevents plastics pollution is a strong theme throughout the free PDM conference programme. Delegates will be given updates on the latest performance polymers and processes which offer exciting new design possibilities, as well as practical advice on how patents and marques can be used to create differentiation.

Material developments will be covered by Plastribution who will introduce the new Vistamaxx performance polymers and EMS-Chemie who will talk about the advantages of using EMS-GRIVORY long fibre technology.

Process innovations in adhesive bonding, assisted moulding technologies and rotational moulding techniques will be covered in the afternoon of day two with expert speakers from 3M Centre, Helix Polymer, Uniqeroto and Rotomotive. Dr Paul Shipton, consultancy director, Smithers Rapra will address the challenges of selecting plastics for use in medical devices.
