~ WEG’s technological solutions enhance efficiency, reliability, and sustainability in the pulp sector ~
Global leader in motors and drives WEG is supplying products to Arauco’s first bleached pulp mill in Brazil. The Sucuriú Project, located in Inocência, Mato Grosso do Sul, will be one of the largest pulp mills in the world, implemented in a single phase, with a projected capacity to produce 3.5 million tons of short fiber per year. WEG plays a strategic role in the project, supplying motors, electrical panels, transformers and UPS systems, totalling an installed capacity of 247,947.68 kW, and ensuring efficiency and reliability in the mill’s operations.
Arauco is an industry leader manufacturing and distribution of forest products, with multiple production facilities across both North and South America. With operations set to begin in 2027, Arauco’s project, a global reference in pulp, wood products, forest reserves, and bioenergy, marks its entry into the Brazilian pulp market. The $4.6 billion investment in the Sucuriú Project aims to achieve energy self-sufficiency of 400 MW and generate approximately 14,000 direct and indirect jobs at the peak of construction, fostering a positive impact on the regional economy.
WEG is bringing its cutting-edge technologies to the project, enabling energy efficiency and robustness for the electrical system. These advantages, combined with the durability of its equipment, ensure agile technical support and reduced operational costs, essential for the operation of large-scale industrial plants.
The Sucuriú Project is currently in the land levelling phase, with civil works scheduled for 2025. The construction reflects a model of industrial sustainability, aligning innovation with environmental responsibility. Arauco, present in over 75 countries and managing 1.7 million hectares of planted forests, reinforces its commitment to renewable products, carbon credits, and clean energy.
The partnership with WEG positions the Sucuriú Project as a global benchmark in efficiency, reliability, and sustainability, promising to redefine standards in the pulp industry.
