The University of Padua was up against 56 other teams in this year’s
competition, achieving a number of impressive results with the help of high-performance bearings supplied by NSK.
With origins dating back to 1981, Formula SAE is an international engineering competition
for universities that involves the design and production of a racing car.

Teams spend 8-12
months conceiving, building and preparing small formula-style racing cars for judging in a
series of static and dynamic events that include technical inspection, cost, presentation,
engineering design, solo performance trials and endurance.

Around 1,600 students from 20 countries took part in the XVIII edition of the competition.
Overall, there were 56 teams, some 47 of which were European, including 22 from Italy
across 17 different universities.

NSK supported the University of Padua team by providing high-quality, high-reliability
bearings for the racing car competing in Class 1E (electric cars), which positioned 4th out of
more than 30 participants in the Italian event.

The greatest satisfaction, however, arrived
during the event in Hungary, where for the first time the electric prototype of the Race UP
team (University of Padua) completed the endurance event, a 28 lap test covering 22 km.
Ultimately, the results achieved on the track are the outcome of a year of hard work. In this
time, close collaboration between the design team at the University of Padua’s Department
of Industrial Engineering and the sponsoring companies, including NSK Italy, is paramount.

NSK Italy is pleased to share in this prestigious result at Formula SAE 2023 and wishes for
a fruitful collaboration moving forward.
