Full-scale deployment of Next Filtration’s FOG STOP by Severn Trent Water

Severn Trent has signed an important new agreement with Next Filtration to allow full-scale deployment of its Next FOG STOP technology, which reduces the build-up of FOG (fats, oils and grease) in sewers.

The deal, which also includes evaluation of additional applications, follows an extensive 18-month trial, during which time Next FOG STOP has helped reduce maintenance costs and flooding associated with sewer blockages.

Utilising a safe and environmentally benign biological technology that enhances wastewater processes, Next FOG STOP can significantly reduce aeration costs, the accumulation of biomass, as well as control hydrogen sulphide (H2S). Additional formulations can remove hydrocarbons following oil spill contamination events.

Bob Stear, Deputy Chief Engineer at Severn Trent, said: “We’re looking forward to moving into the next phase of collaboration with Next Filtration. Sewer blockages and associated flooding are a huge problem for us and our customers – and we are excited about how using new and innovative products can help us mitigate challenges and provide a better customer service.”

He added: “We will continue to remind our customers that fats, oils and greases should never be flushed down the sink or toilet – and until everyone disposes of these properly, we’ll be using this solution to help tackle the problem.”

Steve Fox, President of Next Filtration, commented: “We very much welcome this ongoing opportunity to work closely with Severn Trent.

“Our aim is to prove that the most efficient, cost-effective and green solution to combat FOG is best achieved by using established native bacteria – rather than introducing foreign bacterial cultures. We applaud the vision and willingness of Severn Trent to embrace our technology and hope that their promising results will lead the way for utilities throughout our industry.”

In addition to FOG STOP, Next Filtration also provides water and wastewater treatment technologies for use as an alternative to conventional filter sands – plus Next Scale Stop (to prevent scale) and Next QD (Quantum Disinfection) which is a media disinfectant.
