WALTER’S TECHNOLOGY CENTER USES ‘AUGMENTED REALITY’ TO SOLVE CUSTOMER PROBLEMS

Tooling expert Walter AG has revamped the Technology Center at its headquarters in Tübingen, Germany, to offer customers, partners and staff globally access to the company’s latest developments and test results as well as demonstrations of high-technology solutions for machining systems of the future.

The 5,000 m2 Walter Technology Center embodies the German engineering heritage by combining ‘interactive experiences’ with a research and development focus where, for example, the digital factory of the future can become ‘reality’ with production, logistics, engineering, control and management processes all digitally connected and communicating in real time.

“Customers expect reliable and bespoke processes,” says Mirko Merlo, Chairman of Walter AG, “and our new centre will allow them to develop the most highly efficient and effective machining processes.”

This reinforces Walter AG’s work in shaping the Smart Factory by developing intelligent products that demonstrate new levels of optimisation for customers and solutions that are precisely to customers’ requirements.

The company acknowledged the importance of digitalisation, visualisation and networking some years ago and the Technology Center builds on this by enabling customers to ‘see’ the lifecycles of real-life components, by testing and watching the tools, machining processes and digital applications in a futuristic factory.

Customers can create and optimise complex machining processes in a ‘plug and play’ production environment based on the use of Augmented Reality.

In addition, Walter staff and distributors will also be able to take part in global training sessions in a spacious auditorium that will feature live broadcasts from the nearby production areas.

[] Customers can experience Augmented Reality by downloading the Walter AR app (at https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/walter-ar-augmented-reality/id1142516774?mt=8) and scan the company’s current advertisements for Tiger.tec Gold.
